EPISODE 22: Gullah Geechee

There’s an entirely different language out there, a different culture,  a very unique way of life that needs some celebrating. On the south east coast of the U.S. , the Gullah Geechee are a people rooted in a mix of African cultures. This episode goes to the low country where we meet with Gullah royalty  Queen Quet, and we look at the unexpected ways that Gullah is a part of our lives. We also meet Professor Sunn m’ Cheaux, a Gullah Geechee professor, who found himself teaching a language he’d often been told he shouldn’t be speaking.
